The second book in the Antarctic Empire Trilogy Sally Lachs had never been a noble. She wasn't considered rich or royal or anything of the sort. She was a humble girl who lived in a small house with her mom. She was smart, loved learning new things and going to school, and she worked hard. She never understood the politics of the Royal life. Every marriage had to be for political gain, every birth rejoiced and recorded. The children were raised a particular way, and they behaved a certain way. She never believed she would see a glimpse of that life.

Sally expected a normal day. The day though, was not so normal.

He'd always hated this particular painting. It was of the royal family before the queen died and before Tommy was born. They all looked so happy in it, grinning at the artist, eye's sparkling with joy. But it had always bugged Wilbur. That empty space beside him. As if there was supposed to be another person, but Wilbur could never recall who. And his own eyes in the picture weren't looking forward, rather to the side, at the empty space. Wilbur felt a shiver run down his spine. It was unnatural. And it made him sad, seeing how they were before. He sighed and turned his back on the painting.
