The black god.
At least, the village locals in Romania called it that.
Or, as it was known in the future- the Megamycete.
It had grown, subtly expanded under the ground and had fully taken root under the village, giving birth to what today we call "the mold".
Miranda, the one who discovered its existence after her daughter, Eveline passed away in 1919, portrayed herself as a goddess.
Of course, that didn't come with any pure intentions. Not at all, but the village was fooled either way.
Almost all of them had fallen prey to the gruesome experiments involving the Cadou parasites, one of the first creations of Mother Miranda, as she and others now called her.
All of that, just to find a suitable vessel to bring back her daughter, Eveline.
Only four managed to be compatible with the Cadou parasite at a certain level, but none were enough.
The other residents? Mutated, brainless, hardly even human anymore. Lycans.
Actually, in truth, five people had actually survived the Cadou parasite experiment.
But Miranda labeled the fifth one as a failure, the biggest one. Because in his DNA, there was no apparent change other than a slight increase in physical stats.
It was like the Cadou parasite was so incompatible that it didn't even change him.
Aurel Axinte, taken in by Miranda from a fallen, dead noble family just to be deemed a failure by his new "Mother".
It completely broke his confidence and self-esteem.
But that never extinguished his passion for what he is attracted to doing.
Art.
Drawing, painting, sculpting, he loved and cherished art.
The old family wanted someone ruthless enough to rule with a merciless, iron fist.
Aurel had a smooth welcoming hand.
He was deemed unworthy, a waste.
That kind of judgement can influence someone's view on their work more than people think.
And yet, not even Miranda knew the truth. Not even Aurel himself.
