Beyond Brown Eyes is my story. Coming out my junior year, falling in love with my best friend, and then facing the many many trials that come with coming out in our society today. Harassment, judgement, losing friends and family, these are just but some of the many many difficulties that the members of our LGBT community face daily. Some never understand, some learn and become strong advocates. In life, we should all appreciate each person for who they are. This first section of my book - in the making - is the prologue and the beginning of Chapter 1. It introduces the protagonist and main character of the book, Carter. I am Carter. Throughout the past 4 years I have struggled with what objects and trials that live throws in my face after I was publicly outed at my high school of extreme homophobes. And this, is my story. This message is intended for Latter-day Saints who are troubled with same-gender attraction and sometimes feel discouraged but sincerely desire to live a life pleasing to our Father in Heaven. You are a son or daughter of God, and our hearts reach out to you in warmth and affection. Notwithstanding your present same-gender attractions, you can be happy during this life, lead a morally clean life, perform meaningful service in the Church, enjoy full fellowship with your fellow Saints, and ultimately receive all the blessings of eternal life. The Book of Mormon prophet Nephi voiced feelings we all have when he acknowledged that he did not "know the meaning of all things." But he testified, "I know that [God] loveth his children" (1 Nephi 11:17). God does indeed love all His children. Many questions, however, including some related to same-gender attractions, must await a future answer, even in the next life. But God has revealed simple, unchanging truths to guide us. This is a complete story based on a real-life experience (maybe around 70%-75% true). After finishing the book, for some reason, I had to take it down (the reason would be explained in the second book, coming up). For those of you who read, but didn't have a chance to finish reading the story when I pulled it down, I am truly sorry. A number of you contacted me. So, now, I am putting this up again. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I was well known in my school, not only for my apparent good looks, but for the fact that my face appeared in so many school events and activities. Prior to today, I was a happy single boy of seventeen years with a dazzling identity and a matching sparkling track record. Those eyes, that smile, the flexes on his face that it caused - just about everything about his face -captivated me since I first noticed him sitting on the second row in the school auditorium. He had the brightest of smiles. The most endearing aura enveloped his being. The simple gestures he made as he was sitting had both a calming effect and one that caused some kind of rage within me. I knew right then that this boy was going to be the end of me.

Seventeen year old, Maverick T. Stanley is an athlete, not by choice but by compulsion in hopes to be accepted among the other popular kids at his high school.
