Sanam Khan, a rebellious 19-year-old Pathan girl, is shocked when her grandparents decide that she must marry her 30-year-old cousin, Meer Hadi Khan, whom she has always called "Bhaijaan." In their traditional family, the decision of elders cannot be refused, and the marriage is important because Meer Hadi must be married to become the next Sardar of the tribe. While Meer Hadi quietly accepts the responsibility out of respect for tradition, Sanam strongly resists the idea of marrying someone eleven years older than her. As they are forced to spend time together before the nikaah, their constant arguments and clashing personalities slowly begin to change their relationship in unexpected ways.
