Planet Earth, once primarily ours, has been taken from us. Horrifying creatures of all different shapes and sizes lurk constantly, awaiting new prey. A parasitic fungus festers all over earth's surface, infecting any living things that come in contact with it or it's spores and turning them into monsters that crave blood. The weather patterns have intensified exponentially, resulting in normally livable places being as hot as the Sahara desert or as freezing as the North Pole. Society has been uprooted, chaos now reigns supreme, and the majority of the world's population is dead or has been drivien insane. Shuichi Saihara, a teenage boy with no prior experience, has been thrown into this world that's no longer ours. What will it take for for him to survive? Shuichi Saihara is one of the workers at the castle and is little more than a servant, expect to keep the castle in good condition and do whatever he's ordered to, having accepted his lower status as little more than a part of life. He wants a friend just as much as his royal counterpart, being the only person besides the sovereign children- who he is forbidden to interact with- that is his age. Watermelon Bums is a beautiful coming of age story of great triumphing in the face of adversity. Jilly-Jolly, the main character, shows great strength and the reader will certainly experience the highs and lows of life while reading this narrative. It deals with the issue of discrimination, specifically of butt diversity in a world of plain butts. It encourages human beans (see what I did there) to stand up against bullies and treat them respectfully even when they don't, just like Jesus we always show the other cheek (hahh buttcheek) regardless of the situation, friendship and kindness always triumphs over hatred. Jesus is really the highest ethical lifestyle, and the story told by Watermelon Bums displays this exemplary way of living which hopefully inspires beans (haha) such as yourselves. It truly captures the Jesus by the side of the road in all of us.
