When the G-Man plucks Gordon Freeman out of stasis and drops him onto a train bound for City 17, the world is already unrecognizable. But the familiar chill of Combine oppression has been replaced by a primal, suffocating dread. Facing a losing war against the human Resistance, Dr. Wallace Breen has unleashed a desperate "Purification Swarm"-a bioweapon recovered from a conquered dimension: the Xenomorph. What was meant to be a controlled cull has become an apex-predator apocalypse. As the Citadel's steel gives way to resin-coated hives and the screams of Civil Protection are silenced by the hiss of acid, Gordon must take up the crowbar once more. From the facehugger-infested canals to the "Zeno-Zombie" nightmare of Ravenholm, Gordon and Alyx Vance must navigate a three-way war between a dying empire, a desperate rebellion, and a voracious swarm that adapts to everything it touches. With the Vortigaunts' energy as their only shield against the acid-blooded tide, the Resistance prepares for a final, suicide mission into the heart of the Citadel. A Queen is gestating within the reactor, and if she rises, Earth won't just be occupied-it will be consumed. Rise and infest... or be infested.

In a distant future, there lived a peaceful lifeform on Earth, titled humanity, who thrived on trading, cultivating and lying. And almost like a sign from God, a superior life form shot down with a strange urgency, and they set their sights on them. Many prayed, hid and waited for it to end. But it felt like it never would, so all I was left with was the instincts to survive and hopefully outlive this otherworldly punishment.

A flash of light, a hiss of static, and a city of 50,000 became a ghost town in an instant. The area was cordoned off, eye witnesses were taken away in black helicopters, never to be seen again, and officially, the city no longer exists. The only people left inside the cordon are Curi, Crypto, and Tech, three members of an expedition into the Zone who can't remember who sent them, why they're exploring the Zone, or even their real names. The only thing they can remember is they are tracking a radio signal coming from the center of the Zone. A signal that can't possibly be human. But the Zone isn't ready to give up all of its secrets. And it is more dangerous than any of them realize. [A story for the Literary Lounge Gen 3 Contest]

A companion novella to The Shadow Wars and a direct sequel to Dead Ice. When the infection hit Frost Station in the form of a dozen corpses from a wrecked ship, Laura and her crew of isolated misfits didn't know quite how to deal with it. As a result, only she and two others barely escaped the bloody, frozen horror. Certain that they were flying off into the sunrise towards help and hope, they set off in a stolen medical jump ship. But now the terrifying reality of their situation is setting in. It's been twelve hours in the air and they're no closer to safety. They can't raise anyone on the radio and everywhere they fly over is either burning, dead, or overrun with walking corpses. They're running out of power and are soon forced to crash-land in a network of valleys... Mike Ellis is an engineer working at Peaceful Trails, a network of valleys that serves as a serene nature reserve, a place to get away from the world and relax. All that comes crashing to a bloody halt as he wakes up in an infirmary. He knows he's suffered an accident of some kind, but he can't remember what happened. What's worse, he is forced to call on old skills he learned as a soldier to defend himself when something, what appears to be an actual, real zombie, attacks him. The valleys are no longer safe and the only people he can find are a trio that claim they've come from the northern polar regions of Dis. They must work together to fight for survival and somehow find a way off of this hellish planet...

A companion novella to The Shadow Wars. In the farthest reaches of space lies an isolated mining planet called Dis: on the way to nowhere and in the middle of nowhere, it is of little importance to anyone but those occupying it. In the polar regions of the planet a handful of research and support sites reside, carving out a miserable existence among the frozen wastelands, eternally shrieking winds, and subzero temperatures. Here sits Frost Station. A cobbled-together research outpost that is home to a mere handful of personnel. Two months into a six month haul, these people are all out here for a reason. Some have been exiled, others have imposed their own. For John Marshall, the job is a break from a world he no longer feels capable of coping with. Counting on the bland monotony of boredom and routine to keep his lack of faith in himself at bay, he's happy to deal with the everyday problems of maintaining a distant outpost. But all this comes to a disastrous halt when a ship crashes just outside the base, right about the same time their communications mysteriously fail. As they pull bodies from the wreckage and try to solve the enigma of what happened, it becomes clear that something has gone horribly wrong when the only survivor from the wreck dies, then comes back to life...

Behind every legend is a truth embellished upon by generations of recollection. Throughout mankind's determined yet stubborn existence, the stories of our ancestors have done little in stopping us from making their same mistakes. Though the circumstances of the following tales may differ from those you've heard before, the morals at their hearts remain the same, their lessons ringing like echoes through time. Awards: "Five Minutes" - Winner of @BeyondSol's "Undiscovered" Contest This anthology is a collection of short stories set in the universe of my novel Starhoppers, which you can find by following the link below: https://www.wattpad.com/story/305821631-starhoppers

A (very) short story about a primitive tribal culture's first contact with a technologically advanced species from another world and the horrors that ensue. This one has a bit of a twist that even I didn't see coming. This was an art-inspired free-write I wrote one morning when coming across the image I used for the cover ( art by tianhua-xu on deviantart.com). I recently submitted this dark little tale to a short story contest hosted by Writer's Digest. It's likely a little too short and morbid for that crowd but you never know till you do! Wish me luck! \m/ -cm

We did not kill the planet, we made it nearly uninhabitable. The few surviving societies of humanity begin to recover from an extinction level threat, but as their numbers grow they realize there isn't enough land to support them. In an attempt to solve this problem the "Expansion Project" is created. The Expansion Project is an attempt to rectify the population density issue by dispersing their people within livable underground spaces. With tons of materials harvested and living space growing every day, thus far, the project has been a solid success. Young excavator and engineer Peter McKenna is going about his business as usual. Leaving the towering streets of Littleton, New Colorado, as he and his co-workers descend fifteen kilometers down the mouth of the mine. Together they carve deeper and deeper into the Earth's crust only to discover what secrets lie within the deep biosphere unseen by human eyes.
