July 2021 SciFi Challenge. 16 light years from home and the conversations haven't changed. Are they going to shut us down? Will I have a job tomorrow? Some things never change. But sometimes they do... Update 8/15/21: 1st place in the July SciFi Challenge. After 9 months of The Goats Knew, I certainly wasn't expecting this.

A sun-bleached lasat warrior-now-slave. Va'pae hadn't anticipated her solo-trip to Kashyyyk would be intercepted by pirates and she surely hadn't expected the pirates to work with the Pykes. One thing led to another and the proud lasat found herself in chains, mining for spice on Kessel. A pirate Nautolan with a twist up her sleeve. Neylan hadn't agreed with her captain's decision to trade the lasat warrior for credits and she'd left the crew to devise a plan. On the way, she tapped into lost tricks she held and made a few friends to help in her break out plans. An Offworld Jawa fluent in common. Fabitt had traveled far from Tatooine, on a ship he'd built himself. While scavenging in the sleazy streets of Oba Diah, he met a strange Nautolan. This woman offered him a deal - credits for his piloting skills in a suicide mission. Fabitt was the only one crazy enough to take the offer, his tooka and droids going along just because their creator did. January 2020 SciFi Challenge. It fell from the sky. The townspeople headed out to the hills to see what the strange falling star was. What they found was totally unexpected.

(February Sci-Fi Challenge) The Imperial imprisoned them in their own little world of destruction. It's time they payed.

January 2020 SciFi Challenge. Jeremy pushes his kayak away from the shore. Sunset's nearly over and the moon is rising in the East. Night paddling has it's challenges, but Jeremy knows Canandaigua Lake like the back of his hand. He has no fear as he paddles out into open water. The fear will come later.

"Alestra Vens, you are called back into service. Information pertaining to a classified mission has been located at the coordinates included with this message. The Vichi Prime Government has organised your cover through your current employment and you are to leave as soon as you receive your travel request. Once this mission has been completed you can return to your retirement, uninterrupted." Ominous, vague and not at all specific; I'm definitely back on the clock.

It was a Friday like any other. The office looked as bleak as ever, the coworkers as tired as was to be expected. It was the last day of an exhausting work week. But then something happened, something that turned a boring day at the office into a science fiction adventure.

This is my Sept 2017 Sci Fi Challenge, "Legend". Although a freestanding short story, I wrote it as a side-story to Stars. Enjoy!
