Applejack and Rainbow Dash have been inseparable since they were six. Everyone assumes they're a couple, but they insist that they are "just friends." Or at least, that's what they tell themselves... Until Sunset Shimmer decides to stir things up. A bet is made: Rainbow has six months to make Applejack fall for her. Only there is a catch - she can't actually fall for Applejack. Easy, right?

Now knowing of not only the discovery of the geodes, but the potential theory that there's more to them than originally thought, the Equestria Girls have more of a motive to keep going through the Barbie movies. This time, only a few end up on the island where a girl by the name of Ro has spent the last ten years living on, with only memories of her life on the island, her first memory being a storm that she couldn't recall all the details of. Sunset, Fluttershy, and Applejack are the only three that end up on the island with her, and they're quick to help her begin to try to uncover the secrets of her past, along with meeting Ro's island friends Sagi, Azul, and Tika. Fate takes a turn when the Prince Antonio arrives to the island on an expedition. Finding the girls, he brings them back to his kingdom with Ro's animal friends, and Ro is introduced to society for the first time in years. The seven girls are reunited, but not before things begin to take a turn: Ro and Antonio may have begun falling for each other, but he's now arranged to marry the princess Luciana, who's mother, Queen Ariana, had her own plans for the kingdom. And she plans on using the islanders as the scapegoat.

Things take a turn when the Equestria Girls enter the world of Barbie in the Princess and the Pauper. Twilight, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, and Sunset find themselves meeting the princess Anneliese, while Pinkie, Rarity, and Fluttershy stumble into the life of the pauper Erika. Both girls seem to be living completely different lives, so it's a shock when Anneliese and Erika meet up, and the only two things that are different about them are their hair and their birthmarks (Anneliese has the royal birthmark; Erika doesn't have any). Suddenly, Anneliese is kidnapped by the minions of the royal advisor, Preminger. Not only that, but Erika rebels from the script and goes along with Rainbow Dash and Sunset to find her. Julian, getting worried, says that Applejack has to pose as the missing princess so they can find her, since she's the closest to Anneliese. However, Anneliese was to marry King Dominic the next week, and he's falling for "Anneliese." Translation: he's falling in love with Applejack. However, Preminger, who had staged Anneliese's kidnapping, knows something's wrong, that either Anneliese escaped so cleverly or that there's something else going on he's unaware of. Meanwhile, the real Anneliese has found herself trapped in the same dress shop Erika lived in, with Madame Carp mistaking her for Erika. The real Erika, Rainbow Dash, and Sunset have just made it to the palace, just as Preminger reveals that Applejack had been playing Anneliese this whole time. With all the confusion going on, will the movie reach the happy ending Pinkie knows and loves? Or will this story change for the worse? Since recently graduating from CHS, the Mane 7 are still trucking along well, still together as friends, still the Rainbooms, and enjoying their newfound freedom. Following the kidnappings that happened just a few months before, Sophie Foster and Sunset Shimmer have been having issues with their brains, mostly with the light bothering them and being able to transmit to others. Not only that, but they're both Inflictors and Polyglots now and Rainbow Dash, already an Empath, is now considered a Telepath as well. It's all too confusing, so they're glad for the distractions as they find a female alicorn, one of two alicorns in the entire realm of the Lost Cities. They think things will finally come together. However, when Alden brings down the four girls to try and help with something in Exile, things go terribly wrong, and Sophie and Sunset know they have to fix their minds before things get worse. It started with Sunset Shimmer, surges in her magic leaving her with headaches and worries, but as it continued, it took each of the girls, forcing them to remove their geodes in desperate need for a break from the constant nag. All the signs point to one thing- Equestrian magic, but even with the help of Princess Twilight, no one can figure out where, or whom, it's from, they only know every time they let it overtake them, it gets stronger. What will happen? Will they be able to figure it out before something bad happens? Or will they be possessed by the magic, leaving it too late.
