Naomi's father is a sea biologist and has been offered a job in California. Once there, Naomi finds that she feels like she somewhat belongs. Like being closer to the ocean makes her feel alive for once in her life. Until she starts to control water and hold her breathe for extended periods of time. Three girls Belle, Felicity, and Vivianne notice this and help Naomi realize that she is a mermaid and show her the wonders of the ocean, as well the civilization that lives there. However the mermaids and merwomen have a bad feeling about Naomi and are reluctant to accept her, especially if the sirens are watching her so carefully. ....Slight blood and grotesque warning. Inspired by one of the National Geographic photos in the #PlanetOrPlastic 500-word contest, this short story explores the value of Earth's ocean creatures and how harmful garbage can be.

You should only kiss someone if you really love them and that would only be once you are an adult not a child. I don't want either of you kissing before you are eighteen is that understood?" our mother said. My jaw dropped open wide in shock from what she had just said. I became fascinated and frighten both at the same time. I told myself then and there I would never kiss anybody as long as I lived. I didn't want to disobey our mother and end up pregnant.

Winter lives in a village on the edge of a forest haunted by the contorted souls of the dead, who have taken solid forms in the shape of Devil-forest-seahorses (don't blame me, my friend came up with their names :D ). He is a Alesunum, highly intelligent winged felines, his worlds equivalent of humans. Winter is drawn to the forest and one day during the season he is named after, he stays there after dark... Are the devil-forest-seahorses what the stories tell them to be or are they something completely different?

But how?being an Animus dragon is so common the abilities have been reduced to small tricks and enchantmints. Though it is speculated that animuses were much more powerful than they are now. What happened? The citizens have spoken, they demolished the monarchs, and discarded the currency. Ever since then The states of Oceania have been getting darker, colder and deeper for the past century.The people are scared the ferocious deep sea monsters will move to oceania for their hunts. Eating away all the helpless fish, infesting the waters, and maybe worse, attacking them as well.

I grew up living in a coastal city so I usually saw it crowded with people having fun but what is beneath all of that is horrific. This is my submission for National Geographic #planetorplastic contest . •• { written 2018 }

A young girl finds a seahorse washed up on the beach, and when the seahorse grows, she makes a sign and pleads for money to buy a bigger tank for her seahorse and save it's life. About being kind to strangers. :)
