A gothic story set in Castle Dimitrescu about a young girl who travels with a seamstress to a remote castle for work. What starts as a simple stay turns tense and overwhelming as the castle proves to be huge, eerie, and full of things no one talks about. The girl struggles with fear and feeling out of place, and sometimes slips into younger, regressed states when things become too much for her. She's not really understood by anyone there at first. Lady Dimitrescu, the castle's strict and intimidating owner, isn't the type to care for guests-but she notices more than she lets on. Over time, things slowly shift as the castle stops feeling quite as cold, and something like reluctant protection starts to form.

In the kingdom of Tretainia, there resides a very peculiar Lady, Lady Evangelina of the Qu'zak. Who are the Qu'zak, you may ask? They are a band of assassin-knights, loyal only to the king, previously only consisting of men. Through hard-work and gruelling hours of practice, Lady Evangelina (or Eva as she prefers) has risen through the ranks to an important position within this secretive society. Meanwhile in their neighboring kingdom of Sunsina with which they have an alliance, the King and Queen are mysteriously assassinated via an undetectable poison, leaving the heir to the throne, a mere teenage Prince Gavain, to become ward to the child-less rulers of Tretainia.
