Well On the Inside it had been 15 years but on the outside it had been maybe a year. Dahlia dies and she is somehow still stuck in there until her sister triggered her curse. So that means she was stuck in there for about a year until she just did a spell to sleep. And then when hope was 15 ( season 5 in the originals ) and she triggered her curse she was free and was in foster homes and then found a good home in mystic falls when she was 17. She died when driving a friend to the hospital but drove of the bridge. She saved her friend with her magic but was stuck under the water in the car. She knows what she is, a tribrid.
