Iris Reed is starting her last year in high school. She just wants it to go by as quickly as possible and be invisible to everyone else. She wants to start a new life far away from her small town in North Carolina and try to be a completely different person. Her plans are interrupted by huge problems in her life that she just can't get through on her own. It doesn't help that she has selective mutism. I'm very excited to see how it goes. This story is mainly around Iris dealing with her selective mutism. A poem I had written a few years ago about Selective Mutism (SM), which is an anxiety disorder that makes is very difficult, basically impossible, to speak in social situations. We can speak perfectly fine when comfortable (home, with family and close friends), but physically cannot in situations such as school or public because of excessive anxiety.
