It all just went to a conclusion that he died, end of the story. It would have been better if it just ended like that, but no, the universe must have hated him to not let him go easily. So instead of having a peaceful afterlife, even without knowing his death, with his unlucky charm, Carlos found himself being in the body of a book character. He'd have to go through life again, growing up, learning, and get trashed. But what's the difference? This time, he knew his death.
