On her second visit to hell to deliver information, she gave it to Seonghwa, not knowing that talking to anyone other than San was a violation. After she received a stern lecture from her superiors, she works her hardest to avoid Seonghwa, whom she has caught the attention of. The next two visits he ends up talking to her, leading to her getting punished. She is sent to the human world to suffer life's 6 tragedies: illness, injury, betrayal, heartbreak, loss of loved one, and death, and Seonghwa follows. Taking the place of the King, he uses her punishment to get closer to her, even though he doesn't know if she'll remember their love when her punishment is over. Their love blossoms until it is tragically cut short by Y/N's death. Seonghwa doesn't know if her love will remain after they return, but all he can do is hope it won't be terminated.
