A poem for a friend who died in Sewol Ferry and to all those young souls who couldn't be with us anymore. Hyewon, I miss you. I will always be your sister. Hello there, I was born as a good innocent child full of hopes and plans for future. The way I view the world, it was colorful. But all colors were drained as everything happened slowly. Everything seems to change, except....me. Getting bullied by the whole school, parents telling you get over it, rumors spreading fast. I couldn't do anything. I was shy, very shy back then, couldn't make a single friend. Being teacher's pet was the only thing i could do, at that time. As I went to high school, i met her. When I tripped over a rock on the first day for the first year's ceremony, everyone just laughed. 'Yeah, just great way to start my new life in high school.' "Hey," someone called, "You okay there?" I looked to see her bright smile with her her hand out to me. I was shocked. It was my first time that someone helped me. She and I became best friends. She would smile no matter what, even though she had her own problems. She was a sun that dragged me back to light. Her name is ............ (I'm gonna call her 'Bright sun') She was there when I needed her. But she isn't here anymore, she has left my side without a word....or more like I left her behind in the past. She had died. To be honest about 304 people died in an incident. Only 172 have survived. I was one of the ones that have survived. I wasn't there when she needed me. I was being an ass to her when she was nice to me. Couldn't say good bye bye to her. Because she saved me again sacrificing herself for me. She was so young, she was only 16 years old! Death took her away instead of me. PS This is based on real story that actually happened to me last few years. Byeol is a Korean student from Danwon High School. Her and her class mates are on a trip to Jeju, South Korea. Little does she know that what's about to occur will take her on a trip to heart ache. This story is dedicated to the victims of the Sewol Ferry Disaster that took place on the 16 April 2014. Many victims for the incident were students around the ages of 18. The incident was caused by the ferry workers who are even predicted to of planned the incident and purpose. To this day, Korea still does not have answers revolving around what happened that day. It was carrying 405 passangers, most of them being from Danwon High school, Ansan City. Only 172 survived. The students spent their time recording videos and joking around, but as the water came in, their survival instinct did too. Bruised/bloodied fingers, tied together life vests.. they show the desperation the students had. Even the surviving students were screaming ''Break the windows! My friends are in there!'' The students inside the ferry either drowned or died of hypothermia. They drowned in the dark, desperate for life. This is a memorial for those students, teachers, passangers and crew, whose lives were lost, and dreams were sunk as a result of this disaster. The story follows Sewol Ferry survivor Seul-gi Son and her experience of the Sewol Ferry Tragedy. Seul-gi is a high school student who is going on a school trip to Jeju Island when the ship starts to tip. Based off of interviews and cell phone video footage of Sewol survivors and victims.
