A collection of pieces written daily over the course of July 2015. "Galastaire and its surrounding realms are a dream - this is known. Song things linger. Many things lie forgotten. The difference is not in what is real and what is false. The truth lies in what lingers longest." A diverse, expansive world from my blog, http://apromptripost.com

A race of tiny, magical beings lives throughout Earth today. They are kirins. Dwelling in elaborate tree homes and underground sanctuaries, they enjoy a strong kinship with the animals and birds of their region. In the distant past humans knew them well. But an ancient rift occurred between the races, and kirins chose to separate themselves from humans. To help in this, kirin magicians cast a race-wide spell, the spell of no'an, making all kirins invisible to humans. Sadly, we are now unaware of their hidden civilization. For thousands of years kirins everywhere lived in peace. But an army of gronoms, merciless, faceless monsters, shatters their sylvan existence. ELAMARE, a depraved magician at Stonehenge, has sent gronoms forth. Created there, within the citadel of kirin magic, their sole function is to find and assault kirins who know of Elamare's evil conduct and how to combat it. Book One opens in the domain of tree-dwelling kirins in the central part of North America. Three kirin youngsters find OLAMIN, an aged kirin magician, moribund in the forest. The youngsters are GILIN, a determined lad, TALLI, a spirited girl, and REYDEL, a shy young lass.

Featured on @ScienceFiction | Josiah Li lives in a flooded world, where global warming has taken its toll and technology is intertwined in every aspect of daily life. To pass the time in between virtual classes, he finally takes the leap to sign up for a popular game, Starlia. He chooses the least popular class, a bard--good for providing support and crowd control. Josiah quickly rises to fame when he teams up with Starlia's number one player, Nathan Lum--who's totally handsome and charming, by the way. Josiah joins Nathan's guild, and from there he's introduced to the game's royalty. Turns out, Josiah is pretty good at gaming. So much so that he's invited by the game's company to fly out to their headquarters to meet Nathan and a few other guild members. The company is quick to admit that the game world is harboring many secrets, including a code that's key to building a weathering machine to save Josiah's broken world. Josiah and his guild set out on a quest, which includes defeating multiple strong bosses to reveal the code. As the flooding only worsens, Josiah and his guild mates begin a race against time, betting all of their hopes on unlocking the weathering machine. As their rivals race for the code in hopes of fame and wealth, Josiah risks his all for the game's secrets.

Hana is a recently graduated diplomat, leaving on her first assignment. She must travel to a world she has never heard of and try to stop a war. The war may already have begun. It may never have happened. There is no way to know, until she arrives, because news can only travel as fast as a starship. Hana has no authority, and no ability to compel the warring parties to make peace, and she cannot leave until the war is over. And if that takes more than a week - the length of time a starship remains in orbit around any planet - then the vessel she arrived on will leave without her, and she will have to wait for the next. That wait could take her whole life. It is a backwater planet, with neither strategic importance nor much of anything to trade. Exactly the kind of planet a recent-graduated diplomat is sent to. And on a forgotten, backwater planet, in a turbulent, seething galaxy, that next ship might be a very long time coming. It could be years, or even decades. If Hana fails to make peace in a week, she may be stuck, and her career over before it has begun. She may also be dead, if her peacemaking goes very badly wrong. * * * And to save people starting if it isn’t their thing, this is meant to be gritty, realistic space opera. So no aliens, no FTL, no neutrino communications, the technology is just there and who cares how it works, planets are sovereign polities and interplanetary war is almost impossible - and also pointless - but conflicts within a planet are common and this is what Hana wants to stop. So also, she isn’t saving the galaxy or anything important!
