"Do you remember the promise you made to me when we first married?" His voice is calm, but the question stirs something in me. Of course I remember. I hum again, opening my eyes to meet his-but the tenderness in his tone does not match the storm brewing in his gaze. Those eyes, once warm with love, now burn with anger and jealousy, staring straight through me as if I have betrayed him. "You promised to be mine forever," he repeats, his voice darkening with rage. Fear grips my chest-and suddenly, I jolt awake to find my daughter sleeping peacefully beside me. To others, it may seem like just a dream. To me, it feels like a reminder... a warning. In a few days, I am to marry again. Kish and his mother are both born into slavery throughout the time period of the mid-1800s and are now just seeing the life of freedom at the end of the Civil War. with the reconstruction of the south, under the guidance of the union troop occupation, the new "freeman," that were the previous slaves to the plantations of the south and their owners, experiences their newly discovered freedom. But the Joyeuse uproar is halted after the experience has faded in the slap of reality hits them all harshly, now having to face not only their previous sovereigns, but the harsh conditions that they have to live now having to pay for necessities. Having the expenses of their labor drained from them. With what was thought possible the ex-slaves now face less food less shelter and even less hope for a prosperous future.

A brief memo about my dystopia!

This is a poem about a character who suffers from arrogance and loneliness. My body was shackled by thin threads, with not a single limb abled. My hands were cuffed tightly that even my hands were numb. Shackled by my own destiny. Blood drips from my impaled hand as my head hung low. An abyss inside my empty eyes and not a single emotion shows. I can't escape. I can't get free... No... Even if I can, I won't. For it is I, whom shackled myself. I wasn't born in hell, nor is it my home. However, my destiny says, it is where I belong.
