In 1860, tension separates the towns people and the beasts on the mountain. Though most have given up on or forgotten the fight, an old man named Roland continues on. With great risk, his path of vengeance can only last so long. This short story is based on the world and timeline of a larger project I'm working on.

Your body froze when you heard what sounded like whimpers in the alley next to the café. The streetlights cast long shadows, making it impossible for you to see clearly when you stepped forward. You let out a shriek as your phone slipped from your hand and hit the ground. A man was crouched down, his back facing you, but a dim light let you catch a glimpse of the blood soaking his back and shoulders. He turned around and you recognized him right away. His eyes.
