Tiffany's parents, both military personnel, had to leave in a hurry for work. Therefore, the girl was temporarily sent to Hawkins to live with the Wheeler family. Tiffany knew them well when she was younger, often spending her summers with them, so the Wheeler house was not unfamiliar to her.
