The Reaper Invasion might have been defeated, but it was not without sacrifice. The galaxy is in ruins and with the destruction of the Mass Relay network, the restoration process is near impossible. Luckily, the brightest minds of the galaxy had been stranded on Earth and they have been working tirelessly repairing the Charon relay. The Council will need people to scout the galaxy and help restore what was lost, and the man they need most, who was thought to have been killed at the end of the Reaper war, has resurfaced.

Samantha Shepard has survived encounter upon encounter, and has even been brought back from the dead. Now it's believed that the infamous Commander Shepard had died saving the galaxy... Or has she? With the help of Miranda Lawson, her body is recovered and Project Lazarus has brought her back yet again. Now she's on the road to recovery and Garrus is on the way back. Will things ever return to normal?

The Reapers. What if we just said "fuck that" and cut them from the script? Well, that's my intention here. I'm mixing up Shepard's backstory to the max to try and add on to the gritty side of what falling through the cracks really feels like. Akuze, the Skillian Blitz and the Ruthless origins are all cannon in this personal AU, as well as the Mindoir and Orphan, except instead of being an Orphan on Earth, its Omega. I feel like the space kid is a little too idyllic for what I'm going for. Not to mention I plan on Shepard being a bit on the older side. How long would it take for a disillusioned Commander Shepard to finally cut the red tape and leave the Alliance? Who all will Shepard meet now that the Reapers are out of the picture, not forcing the script in to a funnel? Will she still make friends with our beloved Mass Effect cast? Or will they go completely different routes? Let's find out.

When Shepard decided to stop being part of the world and to undergo cryosleep, she knew that she never wanted to be awakened again. It's been a year or so after the final end of the Reapers, the Galaxy rebuilds itself. And Shepard? She's left the Alliance, and while she still has her Spectre status she's more or less retired. And the love of her life, Liara is off trying to put the Galaxy back together, which Shepard turned down and instead has just been hanging around. Though, recently she's started having visits from a certain Justicar that's been rethinking her life since the end of the Reapers War.
