Yoshimori and Tokine are to guard the land from the intrusion of ayakashi who try to "power-up" there. And so, later on when Gen Shishio has arrived onto the scene, Saya Minatsuki who's secretly a fourteen-year-old student of Karasumori Academy now shows her true colors into the night time realm of the yokai also aiding Yoshimori and Tokine with her demon spirit Youko.
