A broke American law student falls asleep over his textbooks and wakes inside the body of Kaedehara Kazuha, the fifteen-year-old son of a renowned botanist in Taisho-era Tokyo, 1914. The life handed to him is everything his last one was not. Loving parents, a quiet mansion in Koishikawa, a gift for poetry, and a strange sensitivity to the air that lets him hear and feel what others cannot. Believing he has simply been reborn into the past, Kazuha throws himself into the second chance, wandering the city he had only ever dreamed of seeing and treasuring the family he never had.
But the wind has been trying to warn him.
The suffocating unease he feels around certain people, the half-buried memory that stirs at the words "blue spider lily," the things that do not add up, he brushes them all aside, too content to look closer. Then, in a single night, the warmth he swore to hold onto is ripped away. Demons descend on his home, and his parents are slaughtered before his eyes. Broken and bleeding, dragged to the very edge of death, Kazuha is saved at the last moment by a scarred swordsman who cuts through the dark like the wind itself.
And in that moment, the truth lands with terrible clarity. He was never reborn into ordinary history. The Tokyo he loved is a world where demons feed in the dark, and a secret corps of slayers gives its life to hunt them. This is the world of the Demon Slayer Corps, and he has been living in it blind.
Now there is no going back to the quiet life. Grief hardening into purpose, Kazuha takes up the blade, his heightened senses turning the very air into both weapon and warning. Yet the deeper he is pulled into this hidden war, the more the old questions sharpen. What is the blue spider lily his father died chasing? What truly wore the face of the boy next door? And was the strange chance that carried him into this body ever chance at all?
A leaf let go and drifted on the wind. Now it must learn to cut.
