Being an outcast isn't new to Lance and his group of close friends, throughout college people have called him and his group the 'Paladins of Voltron' which is funny given the fact that Lance is a comic book artist and makes small comics of him and his friends as those paladins. He always had been close to all of his friends and seems like the odd ball out of all of them, or the over confident player. As he sees himself. Everyone has been connected through each other in this group that he tends to feel left out, even though he knows he's loved equally by them all. He just never feels wanted, and the group finds it hard to connect to his emotions when he feels down. He rarely even opens up to the main leaders Shiro and Allura. He always portrays feelings of each one of his friends in his comics, but rarely his own. Most of the time he feels selfish because he feels like the seventh wheel, even though he knows he isn't. But when a new found feeling bounds inside of him and chains him to his heart. Will he ever get a chance to express it.?

Keith Takashi Kogane is a delinquent known and feared in Chicago. After the death of his adoptive father, he and his brother Shiro decide to start their lives over in a new city called Altea. Katie Holt, also known as Pidge, is a nerdy girl who lives in Altea and is fascinated by the supernatural world and is determined to prove that creatures beyond human comprehension exist.

There's only one goal that Keith Kogane has in mind, success. Love wasn't something that ever crossed his mind but since he met his roommate, Lance McClain. That goal has shifted a bit alongside many different obstacles in Keiths life that has him questioning if love is even a priority.

After the team learns that their fearless leader Shiro survived the fight against the evil Zarkon and welcome him back to reassume his position Lance ultimately assumes the worse: That Keith would want his lion back and Allura would keep blue as she shows remarkable progress with it. Feeling useless to his team he secretly takes an escape pod and tries to go home back to earth on his own, wondering if everyone's lives would be better off without him. Coincidentally during his journey through space his pod stumbles upon a rift into an alternate reality. A reality where he never existed.
