Keith has cancer. And Lance volunteers at the hospital- he helps with making children happy, and even does coffee runs for a few nurses. Allura assigns him to a certain patient destined to die in a couple of months, his task is to help make his months easier with his company but Keith only likes the company of a certain nurse. It's a journey of friendship to something more.

Shiro and Allura have both endured incredible pain and loss throughout their lives, and much of that pain has come from the Galran Empire. Despite the fact that both of them take different approaches to different Galrans, they connect over the losses they have both suffered and the pressure that comes with being burdened as a leader.
