Dalton checks the stove four times every morning. Not three. Not five. Four. He learned this the hard way when his house caught fire at 9:47 AM after he only checked three times. Seven checks on the locks keep intruders out. Three deep breaths before driving prevent accidents. The numbers have rules. Break them, and disaster follows. His therapist says it's just OCD. His ex-wife says he's teaching their daughter to be afraid of everything. But Dalton knows the truth-the rituals work. Until the day his nine-year-old daughter starts touching her ear three times before answering questions. "I don't know," she whispers. "I just have to." A psychological horror story about compulsion, consequence, and what happens when the numbers you count might be the only thing keeping catastrophe at bay.

I wrote this story for an English project in high school, figured id share it. If it does good, might do more, might not, who knows.

In this suspenseful short story, a lonely and troubled man reaching his mid-life crisis is intrigued by the simple things in his apartment. But even the little things aren't so simple to him. He ponders his entire life and wonders if anyone would even notice if he was gone.

He's your friend. You just don't know it yet, and you may not want him to be there. But he only wants to be like you.

Be careful where you find yourself during the night. You never know if one wrong turn could turn out to be your last turn. This world is strange like that after all, you could spend years on this planet without anything happening, and the next you're the person being talked about in a missing persons case. Perhaps something about a bear dragging you off in the middle of the night, or suicide, or even a kidnapping? either way, you should always be armed before you head off into the dark, one wrong move and you may never come back.
