But as their third winter at the newly-built Keramzin approaches, the life Alina left behind begins to weigh on her. - This story takes place about three years after the war ended, when Alina and Mal are running the Keramzin orphanage. Aleksander didn't expect their tether to be so strong. He is drawn to her and he just doesn't want to resist this pull, he had already waited long enough to find her. -Takes place during Siege and Storm- Alina Starkov has had a rough couple of months with leading the Second Army and having relationship troubles with her best friend, Mal. Not to mention the constant visions of the Darkling that haunt her every time she turns off the lights. She's struggling, but she's making do.
