Reuniting with her older-half brother, Simon, him and his new wife and her friend, Daphne Bridgerton, introduce her into the social season of the "Ton". Anthony (in this adaptation), still struggles to find his Viscountess among the women of the "Ton" after his failures of wooing the Sharma sisters. But his troubles all fall away when an old friend visits.

He didn't try to break the news gently to the girl as the servants moved his stuff in, following his every order. Lydia's parents had been killed in a tragic carriage accident. They were dead. Just like that everything in Lydia's perfect life is flipped upside down. Her parents are gone, her horrible uncle has taken over her home as if he hasn't just lost his brother too, too eager to take on the title of viscount. He acted as if nothing had happened, meanwhile for Lydia, nothing would ever be the same. It didn't take long for her Uncle Richmond to grow tired of her sulking. Deciding to send his niece away, to start over. As much as she didn't want to go, her home no longer felt like home anymore. Not without her parents, they were her home. So, she agrees, writing to the only people she knows her mother would want her to go to. Her mother's best friend in London, Violet Bridgerton. She hadn't seen the Bridgertons since she was a child. Back when their responsibilities were little and feelings far less complicated. She'd been naive to think things hadn't changed much over the years; that she could reunite with them and everything go back to normal. Anthony Bridgerton has snubbed so many marriage candidates his mother is at a loss and thinks her son will never wed. Anthony is, to his mother's dismay, still very much in love with his former girlfriend Sienna Rosso, who has moved on to marry someone else. Yet he still can not forget about her and therefore finds excuses to dismiss one woman after the other. He does the same with Mara Kensington, an old spinster regarding to society's standards, but an unfortunate meeting results into to their lives intertwining. They marry but it is a marriage of convenience at first, even though Anthony likes to visit her bedroom at night but the relationship has his considerable ups and downs and the two argue.. a lot.
