Maddie's gotten back into her body. That's the good thing. Or so the ghosts thought. Someone gets spat out and the other gets sucked in. The tables have turned and Simon's in the afterlife. When the ghosts figure out that Maddie can still see them, Wally gets happy. Maddie was the spark in his afterlife that left as soon as it came. But the second Wally thinks everything is stabilizing, Maddie and Xavier get too close. At the end of the day, we all want our ghost ship back. But how? This story gets different contents from other characters and it's in 3rd person. There is vulnerability, hurt, sadness and emotion that I did not feel that we got as much in the 3rd season.

Split River had been shaken by the disappearance of Madison "Maddie" Nears, and the town was on edge: parents were keeping watchful eyes on their kids, students of Split River High were worried for Maddie, and Maddie's friends were doing more investigating than the police department was. Nicole Herrera, Xavier Baxter, Simon Elroy, and Claire Zomer had stumbled onto a key lead that landed Xavier in the hospital and briefly in the afterlife, which apparently exists. When he awoke from his coma, Xavier wasn't really sure how to explain it, but he came back with a special skill that proved to be more powerful than he understood. Shortly after, Xavier befriended a new Split River High transfer student, Gwendolyn "Gwen" Cavanaugh, who knew nothing about him, his past, or Maddie - a blessing in disguise for him as he navigated his new gift and worked with his friends to uncover the truth about Maddie's disappearance.

Death had become her. Maxine Baxter had been eighteen with her whole life ahead of her and it only took ten minutes for that life to end. She was doomed from the moment that she had taken her final breath to watch the living live their lives in the high school that had ended her own. He could remember the first day he had seen her and the day that she had died. Neither of them had been prepared to meet in the afterlife and Maxine Baxter had not been prepared for the storm that newly dead girl, Madison Nears, would bring her way. She was forced to watch the girl accuse her nephew of murder and disrupt the semblance of peace that she had created in her undead life.
