A Sioux girl named Chumani meets another Sioux girl named Abedabun. They both end up at a river where they gather water and first meet. Every day they meet by the river and soon become best friends. One day the river floods and Chumani's tribe is forced to moved. They follow the buffalo trails until they see smoke in the sky and follow it. They come to a tribe next to a river and Chumani and Abedabun reunite years later.

"A man could be hanged for horse theft," he reminded himself. In my eighteenth year I met two creatures, mortal enemies, Wakinyan and Unktehi, and must choose the side upon which I will fight, a choice which may destroy everything.

Niimoshen is a story of a young native woman and her friend Hadawak, who overcome and obliterate obstacles together.
