She snapped back at him, trying to deflect the situation. He smiled at her before laughing and saying, "Yeah, I guess I'm not." They looked at each other, their expressions softening as they made a mutual agreement. They both weren't meant to be there, but so what? She wasn't going to tell on him, and he wasn't going to tell on her, so it was all okay. They could trust each other, at least a little bit. She hoped. Suddenly, he held out his hand in front of her and asked, "So, may I have this dance?" ♚♕♚ Brynleigh was just another part of the political game, and she was fine with that. The king was cruel. She knew that. So, if being a tool to the revolution meant that she could take him down and give her younger brother a better life, then that was what she was going to be. Her job seemed simple on the surface, even though she knew it wasn't. She just had to figure out how to infiltrate the castle and kill the king, totally a piece of cake. But what happens when she becomes a maid and meets the charming young tutor of the king's son and daughter. Cyrus Anders quickly caught her affections, causing detriment to her plans. She had a mission, though, and she'd be damned if she let one cute boy take away what she was risking her life for. Even if he did offer to give her free lessons.

Cyrus Anders was born July 11th, 2006, and died September 9th, 2019. Four years ago on the dot. That was what legal papers said anyway. The kids who told ghost stories also said that. Brynleigh Pasternack was born May 1st, 2006, and went missing April 16th, 2013. It was a shocking tragedy that shook their town. But Brynleigh was much closer to home than thought. A supposedly dead boy and a missing girl who both have a lot of secrets. What will happen when they meet in a way they never thought they would?
