Schizophrenia is generally considered a severe psychiatric disorder, characterized by hallucinations, delusions, and impaired social cognition. However, some specific symptoms-such as thought insertion or broadcasting-can be interpreted as an attempt at direct mental communication. This article proposes a bold hypothesis: schizophrenia may represent an increased permeability of consciousness, opening the possibility of scientifically exploring telepathic-like interindividual communication. After a review of relevant neuroscientific findings (neural synchrony, temporal processing abnormalities, thought misattribution), we present a rigorous experimental protocol to test this hypothesis. The epistemological, clinical, and societal issues are discussed, as well as the risks associated with prematurely rejecting this avenue.
