Looking back on it, Jimmy blames the garden for everything that's happened. After all, that's where he found the box, which led to Deepfrost, which led to this whole spiral of backsliding further and further away from the warmth of life. It had all started simply enough- with a dungeon, and with a goal- and had, over time, meandered into a world of beasts and bosses and dangers that Jimmy never had fully been able to grasp until it was too late, until he learned what Deepfrost REALLY was. But, that's a little too close to the end of the story. Let's rewind things back to the start, back to the beginning of the game known as Deepfrost. Let's talk about the first runs, the first deadly encounters, the first small victories. Or . . . perhaps you should be left to discover that on your own. After all, Deepfrost is a game that prides itself in its own immersive experience . . . in more ways than one. --- Deepfrost is an AU that is a crossover of the games Inscryption (by Daniel Mullins) and Decked Out 2 (by Tango Tek). You don't need to know anything about either of these to enjoy this story. If you don't want spoilers for the level design of Decked Out 2 or the layout of Act 2 and some of the overarching lore of Inscryption, I would consider not reading this fic, or at least leaving it for later :]

It's 2006, and Impulse is a 29-year-old struggling game developer who has a strange ability- Revival. He can't control it, but when it activates, it sends him back in time 1 to 5 minutes to prevent a tragedy. One day, when preventing a tragedy, Impulse lands in the hospital, and his mother, Cleo, comes to visit. This brings back memories he'd forgotten about, the kidnappings that happened in his neighborhood as a kid. Then he has the biggest Revival he's ever had, and he has to stop this murderer who's been free for 18 years. (This is basically the plot of the Anime, "Erased, the town without me", you do not have to have watched it to read this! In fact, it might be more fun if you haven't watched the show!) XisumaVoid, he's been the admin of Hermitcraft for quite some time now. He's had many people join (and a few leave) the server. The Watchers and Listeners, they're the beings that guide and help players and admins. Sure, the Watchers are cruel at times, but that's why they have the kinder Listeners. They're there to keep each other in check while keeping the worlds. Xisuma knows that they are good overall, though. But when he gets a strange dream where the Primals warn him of his Hermits, he thinks they must be crazy. Sure, Zedaph could be a bit freaky about his "experiments" sometimes, or Grian could get a bit too into a conflict at times. But from Xisuma's oldest to his newest members, they were all good spirits. And, the Primals warning Xisuma about his own BROTHER too? How can he trust them? And how can he believe some of the outrageous things he learns about his Hermits? But who can he trust? Whose side? With Scar, the newest member, joining, the Phasmophobia group get a new outlook on how to deal with ghosts. But modern solutions come with old fashioned problems. Now with the ghosts on their side, there was no need for them to be exorcised. Although there seemed no stopping the relentless exorcists.

Impulse and Skizz have been close friends for years, even going so far as to living together. They have always worked well together and know it. So when the house starts to feel lonely, they're financially comfortable, and receive an ad for their local orphanage, they jump at the chance. The characters in this are characters, not actual people. Even though there's no shipping, I feel like it still needs to be said. Also, this idea came from "Smallishcats" on YouTube. The AU is different, but the original idea is from them! :3
