The continent of Azeron has secrets and alliances that go way back in history - but enemies have their stories too. This land of five kingdoms is plagued with betrayal and mistrust.
When Farren Decroix, prince of the kingdom of Ebresan, is called to Queen Orlanna of Soudor's gala in her hopes to find a suitor, Farren hopes that it's his brother that gets picked. He personally doesn't want to have to endure the responsibilities of being a king, being a second born son. So, naturally, when he is asked to be Orlanna's husband, he respectfully declines - but Orlanna, who takes this the wrong way and has a reason of her own, gets angry... too angry.
Vada Nazari is a commoner from the region of Kotia who just rejected a marriage offer, and she is on the run from her mother - who doesn't seem to want to stop until she finds a suitor. When she stumbles upon an unconscious, close-to-death prince, she decides that she should at least help him - after all, there's no one else in the forest. But when Farren tells her that Queen Orlanna has become more corrupt and will most likely be on the verge of destroying the continent, Vada decides to help to not only save the continent, but to give her region a bit of praise... especially since Ebresan and Kotia's rivalry goes back hundreds of years.
In The Crown and the Commoner, Vada and Farren travel through the five regions and learn all different secrets about Azeron - in preparation to defeat a corrupt witch queen - and realize that doing so is bringing them closer together than perhaps either of them would have wanted to.
