Natalie "Nat" Hayes enlisted in the military at 18, where she met Tim Bradford and became his second-in-command. After leaving the Army together in 2007, the two joined the LAPD. Their shared background helped them advance quickly, and during their rookie year they began dating-marrying just two years later. By 2009, Tim had earned his promotion to Training Officer while Natalie was tapped for Detective, fast-tracked into Narcotics, and partnered with her Academy friend, Isabel Blake. But by 2019, everything had changed. Isabel's struggle with addiction began in 2016, and Nat had gone deep undercover in a cartel ring-six months in when a new wave of rookies joined the LAPD.
