The fruition of my dwellings on and decidedly heavy dosages of high-pathos, noir-themed Michael Jackson songs (specifically, "Al Capone" and "Smooth Criminal"). "The Mourner" is a vignette of sorts and a one-shot at that. Note: I did this almost solely for writing practice, so if you read it multiple times, you will likely notice slight sentence and wording changes (though nothing major, I promise) as I reread and edit this again, and again, and again as writers must.
