Her mom and his mom were best friends so they hung out almost everyday of the week. They went to middle school together until he left halfway through the year. Him and his family moved out to Canada. They messaged each other for a while until he stopped replying. Hope finds out that her and her mom are moving to Canada. Later she finds out that they live in the same town. She learns that he is big into snowboarding. She tries it out and learns that she's really good at snowboarding and tries out for the snowboarding team.
