Evan Hansen is one month into recovery after surviving a near-fatal suicide attempt. With the help of his friends and his mother, he is healing. He is learning, however, that healing is not linear. There are high points and low points, and nothing about it is easy. This sequel to "Another World" focuses primarily on Evan's recovery, and the lasting depression and regret that comes after an attempted suicide. "Dear Evan Hansen" is a musical and novel about a high school senior who suffers from severe anxiety and, secretly, depression. When classmate Connor Murphy steals a letter Evan writes to himself as an assignment for his therapist and then proceeds to kill himself, his parents mistake it for a suicide note. Evan is now faced with the challenge of keeping his secret private and trying to help the Murphys. In "Another World," Evan's letter is different, failing to mention Connor's sister and Evan's crush, Zoe. Instead of getting mad, Connor recognizes that Evan, like himself, is suffering from depression. Now the story takes a different turn, and an unlikely friendship comes into being.
