In Ancient Japan, when feudalism ruled the society, citizens' worlds are torn into many different parts.
As karo, Katsumi Nari leads the samurais to victory after victory, though more than half of the credit goes to the warrior prince who works alongside her, Takehiko Hikaru. Her life is of weaponry and warfare, something many out there believe are wrongs for a woman. But Katsumi is ready to prove them wrong at the annual ball thrown royally every year.
Chiasa Kaiyo is an outcast. As one of the hinin, she is looked down upon and unable to speak to anyone of higher status, which is almost all the people surrounding her. If only Chiasa can be one of the samurai. That's all she's ever wanted and this year, she is sure that when she disguises herself as a merchant's daughter and enters the annual ball, she'll meet the infamous Karo Nari, recruiter of samurais and the karo of the shogun's army. Then, Chiasa will show the karo all that she can do. And everything will be different.
With thousands of men trying to win her hand in marriage, Hayami Rai has nothing to worry about. Being born into a good status did miracles for her reputation as the prettiest female bachelorette of Japan. She needs nothing more except for the fact that the crown prince is eligible and she's somehow not yet his betrothed. Confident that she will impress the warrior prince at the annual ball and win his hand in marriage, Hayami is prepped to enjoy a life of even greater luxury.
But everything changed when the annual ball is sabotaged and the emperor and empress is killed. With a rebelling group taking over Feudal Japan inch by inch, havoc is wreaked in Katsumi, Chiasa and Hayami's lives.
