Being the oddball in a square society is exhausting. A Broken Dream is a poem I wrote a while back about the exhaustion of being transgender when living with unsupportive people.

Sometimes you have a lot on your mind, and you don't know how to express it. And sometimes you do, but you don't know who to express it to. This book holds the secrets that I've never told, the thoughts that I've never talked about, the experiences that I've kept. Every feelings that I've ever felt but were never expressed. This book, is the book of my life. The stories contained in this book are the flashes of memories that I could recall. As I'm surviving with the baggage of depression and anxiety, I've realized how my memories had seem to suffer from it. This is simply a way to keep all the memories I have left, alive.

With every passing day, each seemingly growing shorter and shorter than the next, he wondered when he had first started to feel this way. Why did he so desperately want to prove to himself that no matter the odds, or that how much his craving to give up grew, that he would always win? That he couldn't say he knew the answer to. And to be honest, he also wasn't sure if he could ever let himself lose this game of attrition, not when he's already lasted this long. The mask he's worn for most of his life may be falling apart at the seams, but his smile wasn't going to fade away along with it. That part of his mask crumbled away a long time ago. At least he hoped so.
