In a dystopian future where women are auctioned off at the age of eighteen to marry men within their social class, the lives of women mean nothing anymore. Scarlett is in the lowest class, her parents can barely afford to keep a roof over their heads and put food on the table, never mind fend for their two children. Scarlett's twin brother's life is much more valuable than hers; this is a lesson she has been taught her entire life. Although she knows she should be jealous of the liberties her brother gets for his gender, Scarlett can't find it within herself to hate him. Once her eighteenth birthday is a month away, her parents strive to make their daughter the most presentable and meek of all the lower class women in hopes that a soldier may fancy her. This would be the highest family she could hope to marry into and in that case she would never have to worry about food, warmth and shelter again. Scarlett is content with this idea of life since it means escaping the grasp of her disappointed and strict parents. All Scarlett dreams about is having a sweet husband who understands her and gives her children to love with all her heart. Marriage was never about love for her. It rarely was for anybody. Social hierarchies and legacy is all anyone cares about in these stressful times of famine and destruction. Neither Scarlett nor her family could have predicted what would happen at the auctions- but they never expected it to drastically change their lives forever... * 10 in #trophywife
