She couldn't wrap her head around how something could take such a dark turn in just a few pages. It seemed unrealistic, purely a fantasy. Oh how wrong she was. Her own life would take a tragic turn just like the Shakespearean plays. There were no jousts, beheadings, or poison, but there was death and more than one. Most of them she had no involvement in, but one. Dallas Winston was dead because Juliet loved him and he loved her back. Dallas loved very little, but when he did he loved hard. It's what made his end so ill-fated, Juliet's just the same. Their tale was truly just another Shakespearean tragedy.

Shirley Davis moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma from Denver, Colorado to get away from the busy uptown life. She moved on to the Eastern side of town where the Greasers ruled since she couldn't afford to live on the West side. There, she met Sodapop Curtis at the gas station he worked at. He was the most attractive man Shirley had ever seen. When she also becomes friends with a sweet Johnny Cade, she realizes how small her new town is as she constantly runs into who everyones calls 'the sweetheart Greaser'.

I was new in town and I didn't get the leather jackets and rumbles. I didn't see why it mattered so much. Then two Greasers, a hood and a charmer, taught me that it was all they knew. It was like their sky. You look up and it surrounds you and the sky is different colors in different places, but it's all just a sky. Theirs were red skies and mine were blue.

It's now the calm within the storm for the East Side Greasers. Johnny survived the fire, him and Dally are alive. Ponyboy is mustering up his courage to ask out Cherry Valance to be his lover. And everyone else from the Curtis gang is moving on with life. Soda on the other hand is going through a crisis no one else sees. Ever since Sandy cheated on him he hasn't been the same, he is convinced that love is dead. But love is only sleeping at the moment. It wasn't until one day he and his best friends Steve and Two-Bit had an altercation with some Socs at a Record Store, and amongst them was the new boy from Orosi, California. And from that point on, Soda somehow forgot about Sandy.
