Aurelius's duties as a Fulton include keeping his name clean, marrying within his kind, and making sure the town of Rockport returns as it once did in all its glory-before different people started flocking it and taking it as their own. Then and only then, would he be able to receive his family's support to become the town's new mayor, as his grandfather and the previous Fulton's before him, and claim his rightful inheritance.
Alba Fuentes can only further her education if she gets as many scholarships as possible available, and, if her softball coach shows her some grace, letting her return to the team and earn the recognition of college scouts for a free ride. Still, she isn't sure that is something she can do, as her family needs her paychecks.
But when Aurelius-her former bully-starts helping her get her spot back in the team, Alba allows herself to be selfish and think about her own future. She's wary of him until she finds he has his own set of chains keeping him from building a life to his will.
Forgiving and forgetting isn't easy, but as Alba and Aurelius start seeing each other's worlds through their eyes and meeting halfway old prejudices melt, being replaced by their unconditional support to one another.
