I believed heartbreak was the worst pain a heart could endurre.
I had rehearsed my confession a hundred times.
He was my senior-kind, soft-spoken, and the first person who made my pulse stutter.
I thought fate had written our names together. But that day, under the cold, pitiless rain, I watched him kiss my best friend.
I ran.
Not because I was weak-
But because I was shattered.
My vision blurred with rain and betrayal, and I finally reached my apartment, I just wanted to curl into the dark and disappear.
But my room had other plans.
The door creaked open.
And my breath stilled.
Roses, daisy, lili
Hundreds of them.
Crimson, fresh, scattered like blood.
Petals covering my bed.
And there
Pierced into the wall with a shimmering silver knife-
A note.
Written in blood-red ink.
The words carved themselves into my bones
"Your tears are not meant to fall for someone so unworthy.
You were never his to break.
You are mine to break, protect, tear, make cry, laugh, giggle, screamed, hate, love
You were always mine.
"I saw you cry.
I counted each drop.
And with every tear that touched your skin, I died a little."
"He stole your smile.
I can steal his breath."
"This knife. it has no conscience.
It only needs your word.
Say it once, and I'll erase him like he never existed.
"Smile for me, fireflam.
Or someone else will bleed."
Yours. Always."
My knees buckled.
The knife had a tag dangling from its hilt.
"A gift. If you ever decide to stop crying."
A chill crawled up my spine.
It wasn't a prank.
Someone had been watching me-so closely, so obsessively-he knew when I cried.
He knew what broke me.
And more terrifying than anything... he wanted to fix it in the most dangerous way.
I should have been terrified.
I was.
But somewhere between the fear... there is something more I can't
