The Moonlark has never been caught, even when Fitz one days comes close. He is determined to be able to catch the Moonlark before he becomes King. Sophie is the rebellious leader of the Black Swan. All her raids and plans have always been successful and she has never been caught. To everyone that is not her friends, they think the Moonlark is a tall, raven-haired, pale blue eyed male. There life changes when the future king of Enternelia and the rebellious leader of the Black Swan are chosen to become Cognates. Fitz's life starts crumbling downwards as he soon realizes that he is crushing hard on his soon to be cognate. Sophie, on the other hand, is really just worried that Fitz will find out about her. Emerald Pyren, an elf raised by the Neverseen, is now sent on a mission to bring the runaway Keefe Sencen to his mother. But Emmy has plans of her own, like saving her father, so she embarks on an adventure of ill-considered decisions. Which could lead to a tragedy sooner or later, especially if she listens to her heart and it leads to Keefe of all people.

This is after the book Flashback. Sophie and her friends are shocked about Tam joining the black swan. Bianca Vacker invites Sophie and the rest of her friends- no Tam of course, to spend time at Evergreen to cheer them up. When they were having fun, a mysterious girl falls from the sky and into Evergreen. Who is her and where did she come from?
