In every lifetime, Li Mei and Emperor Tianyu are tied together by fate.
He is the Dragon Emperor, beautiful, powerful, and feared by the world. She is the Heaven-Blessed Snake Empress, the only person he has ever loved enough to destroy himself for.
After losing Mei in a past life, Tianyu is reborn with all his memories - and this time, he refuses to lose her again. He protects her, raises walls around her, crowns her as his future empress, and binds their souls beneath the eyes of heaven.
Mei loves him. Truly.
But as she grows older, she begins to see the darkness beneath his devotion. Tianyu never hurts her, never forces her, never stops loving her gently - but his love is possessive, terrifying, and absolute.
When the Weaver returns and turns clan against empire, Mei and Tianyu are forced onto opposite sides of a war neither of them wanted.
--------------
Across a burning battlefield, beneath a sky blackened by war, the Red Thread of Fate stretches between them like a wound that refuses to break.
The sword Tianyu once taught Mei to wield is now pointed at his heart.
At the man she loves.
At the Dragon Emperor.
At Long Tianyu.
Yet Tianyu does not draw his weapon.
He only looks at her with the same eyes that have loved her across every lifetime.
Mei's hand trembles.
Around them, an empire burns.
Between them, years of love, mistakes, sacrifice, and regret stand like an uncrossable distance.
For a long moment, neither speaks.
Then Tianyu smiles.
Not like an emperor.
Not like a dragon.
Just like the lonely boy who spent twenty years terrified of losing her.
A tear slips down his cheek.
And softly, almost too softly to hear, he asks:
"In another lifetime..."
"Can we meet before I learn how to be afraid of losing you?"
And in that moment, Mei finally understands.
The tragedy was never that Tianyu loved her too little.
It was that he loved her too much.
