I think clocks represent this ship very nicely: on the one hand, clocks are complex machines and often associated with something following a set pattern; on the other hand, clocks are used to portray the passage of time, and the inevitable end of all things. Everyone knew. There was no hiding the pain. I'd tried to get rid of it, but it wouldn't go away.
