Red Dress, Red Shoes is a bedtime story about embracing the wisdom and skills of ancestors and having hope about the future. Catlani and her younger brother Kabil can't wait to grow and become strong members of their community, taking their place in the long line of their ancestors. Famine, drought, and attacks threaten their lives, but they remain strong, like the Blood of their People - the Grana Cochinilla. This is a work of historical fiction. Any similarities between people or events is coincidental. Not completely historically accurate, as I am not an expert in this area but I am trying my best to create a family friendly book that celebrates a nearly lost cultural heritage and history of the Cochineal Insect - the oldest and most vibrant dye for clothing and food in the world, which only has one farm left in South America. Hopefully families can enjoy this short story! video embed with audiobook - I recorded the "READ ALOUD" from Word from my edited document.
