Southern California is weird - and it gets a lot weirder in the hilariously dystopian comedy, Palm Tree Pipe Dreams In the near future, L.A.'s traffic reaches a saturation point, resulting in a massive, intractable gridlock. While politicians and special interest groups battle each other over solutions, a new normal takes hold - one that challenges the already-challenged Ira O'Riley, a young, frustrated screenwriter from Detroit. The low-level foothold Ira had gained in the entertainment industry slips away. Jobless, homeless and girlfriendless, Ira struggles to adapt and find the success and love he's convinced are his destiny. His missteps and misadventures inadvertently lead to him becoming a media darling, folk hero and hunted fugitive. "Craptastic," as Ira would say. Writing in the absurdist tradition of Douglas Adams, Kurt Vonnegut and Gary Shteyngart, Paraventi uses the memorable characters and preposterous situations in Palm Tree Pipe Dreams to both skewer and embrace the ambitious, adaptable, self-inventing, delusional, trend-obsessed people who are drawn to L.A. After all, "they're like Americans are in general, only more so."

My name is Michael Clifford. Ive just been checked in to Heritage Oaks mental hospital from my home in Huntington Beach, California. My parents had told me we were going on a vacation to Northern California for my birthday. I should've known! No one takes vacations in the middle of November. Why am I in this stupid mental institution you ask? Because I see things. Things that others can't and my parents couldn't take it. I've only been here for about and hour and I'm already regretting not jumping out of the car and running when my dad pulled up in the parking lot. How could I be so clueless? I'd been going to Huntington Beach High School and I was in year 9. I never really got bullied, mainly because everyone was scared of me. I never really had friends, but I didn't mind. Ps-get me the fuck out of here "Sincerely", Michael

Edelyn has a one-in-a-million name, a year-long RA gig, and an unlucky streak in love. All she wants is to try and let loose so that she can forget about these emotional scabs, but it's proving difficult as she gets distracted by conduct cases and a pretty frat boy. --- Edelyn Tran Page is reeling from the most unexpected breakup of her life. It turns out that life doesn't owe you a happily ever after just because you had a party phase in freshmen year, or because you've nurtured yourself into what your dearest friends call the Top Girl Boss. Now, Brave Edelyn is all but buried, and she's finding herself obsessively checking her phone notifications and checking over her shoulder for the boy who left her at the start of the summer. It's proving hard to stay focused as she returns to her role as an RA and has to juggle her heartbreak with senioritis, a part-time job, and an internship that she's hoping will turn into a post-graduation job security blanket. Maybe the messy-haired blonde with a penchant for mischief will prove to be the salve she needs as they kiss their way into oblivion. Or maybe, she hasn't learned anything at all.
