Rhea has been alone on the planet of Elysium for over a year now. At first it wasn't so bad, she had daily check-ins with Gloria, and the thrill of learning about this new world kept her going. It didn't take long for the solitude to wear on her though, and even her daily check-ins felt shorter and shorter. About a month ago, something changed. Gloria disappeared and was replaced with Kel, a handsome and polite young man. When Kel asks Rhea to speak to him privately, she begins to understand that perhaps her being alone here wasn't the accident that she was led to believe it was and now the two of them must work together to get Rhea out of her purple paradise before dark forces can lead her to hell. When comms officer Mara Voss picks up a transmission on a frequency that's been dead for twenty years, she assumes it's a glitch. Then she hears her own voice saying things she hasn't said, yet. Stranded on a remote deep-space listening outpost with a five-person crew, Mara begins to realize the impossible signal isn't coming from outside the station. It's coming from inside. As transmissions multiply and crew members start hearing their own voices too, the line between paranoia and truth collapses and what they eventually find beneath the station is far stranger, and far sadder, than anyone expected. Everything was normal. The day went perfectly as usual for Martha. Until one night her 5 year old daughter asked her a very simple question. "What is earth?" Thats when some lost memories start to resurface again. What does she say to her daughter? A while back in my English/Language Arts class, I was given the task to write a science fiction style short story. My teacher loved it, so I'm sharing it with all the world to see. It's in only one part, but I hope you guys like it!
