Readers' Favorite Book Award Winner In 1921, young jazz pianist Eve Riser witnesses the accidental killing of a bootlegger. To cover up the crime, she agrees to deliver money and a letter to a man named Rudy Hardy in Chicago. But when Eve gets to Chicago she discovers that her stepsister Chickie, a popular nightclub singer, is pregnant by a man she won't name. That night Rudy Hardy is killed before Eve's eyes in a brutal drive-by shooting, and Chickie disappears. Eve needs to find Chickie, but she can't do it alone. Lena Hardy, Rudy's sister, wants to learn the truth behind her brother's murder, but she needs Eve's connections. Together they navigate the back alleys and speakeasies of 1920s Chicago, encountering petty thugs, charismatic bandleaders, and a mysterious nightclub owner called the Walnut who seems to be the key to it all. As they fight racial barriers trying to discover the truth, Eve and Lena unravel a twisted tale of secret shipments and gangster rivalry. SUGARLAND mixes the excitement of a new kind of music -jazz- with the darker side of Prohibition in this gripping story.

It's strange living in a new country especially when you're living in a time of prohibition. Now while crime is common it's hard to keep a low profile when a corpse is lying in your backyard. Join Francis as she deals with family, work, and goofy bootleggers. I do not own Lackadaisy, Felidae, Mrs. Brown's Boys, or any fandoms that might show up as a reference. I only own the story ideas, OC and Mrs. Brown boys inspired OCS. However, I did use other people's art as a reference. Warning!!! Historical fiction so prepare for some historical inaccuracies. Murder victims, and an unpredictable author/slow updates.

(The artwork is not mine, and all credit goes to the rightful owners. I'm only using it because it's the only artwork of cats within the prohibition era that I can find) In the time of prohibition within America, many of America's citizens rebelled, and illegal bars named Speakeasies begun acquiring and selling bootlegged or traded alcohol. There is a renowned speakeasy, named Felidae, and whilst the owner deals with rivalry, two gangs oppose each other, each wishing to be the one who supplies Felidae with the alcohol it needs. There is violence, mystery, crime...murders. The police are useless, private detectives either wash their paws within the business, or investigate...and even the innocent can become prey. (Inspired by the webcomic 'Lackadaisy.')
